Prayer for Standing Rock began as a painting reflection and deep appreciation of a friendship I have had for many years. It “shifted” midstream because friends were returning from Standing Rock in 2016 with so many stories of the love they had experienced there unlike anything ever before. I was deeply touched by the need for prayer and spiritual resources for all the water protectors who had the courage to stand up to the pipeline owners and who joined in solidarity with sacred reverence, deep respect, nonviolence and acknowledgment of how we are all related/included/connected. It truly was one of the most incredible shifts as I recognized how one thing that was personal became something that was more communal and universal. It depicts the unity of earth dweller and spirit being abiding within and between all of us.
